| The Virginia Recreation and Park Society is a private, non-profit professional organization, founded in 1953 and incorporated in 1956. Its purpose is to unite all professionals, students, and interested lay persons engaged in the field of recreation, parks and other leisure services in the Commonwealth of Virginia, into one body. The members work together to promote and improve the profession in all its diversity. VRPS is affiliated with the National Recreation and Park Association.
General Information Mark your calendars now for the VRPS 2009 Conference, September 12-15 in the beautiful RoanokeValley. We’re excited to announce this year’s conference theme will be DESTINATION GREEN! The recent increase in public awareness of environmental initiatives has already begun to make an impact on parks and agencies throughout the Commonwealth. Through informational education sessions and top-notch guest speakers, the upcoming conference will keep your staff informed about these and other topics affecting our industry. Administrators will learn to GO GREEN with the latest ideas on technology, marketing, construction and sustainability. Recreation professionals will learn how to SEE GREEN, by getting more money out of their programs despite a bad economy. Park staff will better understand how to KEEP GREEN, with new industry tools and standards for keeping park grass and trees healthy. Finally, being in southwest Virginia will allow you to take advantage of an unprecedented number of off-site outdoor adventure trips provided in conjunction with the conference.
