LAC2010 – 1st International Conference on Landscape Archaeology

26-28 January 2010, Amsterdam (the Netherlands)

The Institute for Geo- and Bioarchaeology (IGBA) and the Research institute for the heritage and history of the Cultural Landscape and Urban Environment (CLUE) at the VU University Amsterdam are organising the 1st international congress on landscape archaeology LAC2010 in Amsterdam, from 26 to 28 January 2010. The conference is organised in collaboration with the National Agency of Cultural Heritage (RCE) in the Netherlands, and is sponsored by the European Geosciences Union (EGU) and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).

Landscape archaeology is the science of material traces of past peoples within the context of their interactions of the wider natural and social environment they inhabited. Themes of the conference are:

  1. How did landscapes change?
  2. Improving temporal, chronological and transformational frameworks
  3. Linking lowlands to mountainous areas
  4. Applying concepts of scale
  5. Exploring new directions in digital prospection and modelling techniques
  6. How will landscape archaeology develop in the future?
